As an international reference centre in botany, the Geneva Botanical Garden (JBG) puts botanical science and its collections at the service of understanding, preserving and enhancing living organisms. To achieve this, it generates scientific knowledge on plant and fungal biodiversity, conserves and enhances some of the world’s most important botanical and mycological collections, undertakes concrete actions to preserve endangered species, trains the next generation of botanists, scientists and gardeners, and engages the public to protect biodiversity. Your mission and responsibilities
In this key role within the management duo, you will be called upon to:
- Provide permanent deputy cover for the Director across all administrative, financial, HR, logistical and infrastructure activities (buildings, security, energy, IT), to ensure the operation and continuity of the JBG.
- Take an active part in the management of the service and contribute to reflections on the overall orientations and strategy of the JBG.
- Carry out autonomous management missions, represent the JBG externally and before municipal commissions.
- Manage and coordinate the various organisational entities: administration, finance and HR, technical, to ensure the implementation of directives and objectives set with management while respecting the strategy set by the Administrative Council and the Presidency.
- Prepare the budget. Lead budgetary and financial processes and be accountable for the use of the Service’s financial resources.
- Guide and support scientific project managers in the financial management of third-party funds.
- In liaison with the Service’s HR team, conduct recruitment procedures and take an active part in selections.
- Lead, control and coordinate the Administration/Finance/HR unit.
Your profile
- Hold a university degree in management, public finance, administration or an equivalent qualification, and have proven experience in an administrative and financial management role.
- Demonstrate proven skills in management and human relations, be diplomatic.
- Have excellent knowledge of public finance, internal control and administrative processes, ideally in a public or semi-public environment.
- Show unifying leadership and the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
- Possess solid experience in managing cross-functional projects and change management.
- Stand out for rigour, organisational skills and the ability to anticipate.
- Master spoken and written French perfectly. English is required, and knowledge of German or Spanish in a professional context is a plus.
- Experience in seeking external funding is an asset.
- Administrative skills in executing development cooperation projects in the field of botany are welcome, as is knowledge of the museum and cultural sector.
