Purpose of the Role ###

The Validation Engineer - Train Level is responsible for preparing and executing verification and validation (V&V) activities at train level for Asset Life Management (ALM) projects, including modernization, retrofit and life-extension programs.

The role ensures that the modernized train complies with system requirements, safety, quality and customer expectations, in line with Alstom processes, railway standards and project objectives.

Key Responsibilities ##

  • Define and implement the train-level validation strategy for ALM projects, in accordance with the V-cycle and Alstom V&V methodology
  • Analyze system, subsystem and interface requirements, including:
  • Legacy configurations
  • Modernized or upgraded solutions
  • Prepare, maintain and deliver V&V documentation:
  • Train-Level Validation Plan
  • Test Strategy, Test Procedures and Test Cases
  • Validation Reports and evidence
  • Requirements-to-tests traceability
  • Plan, coordinate and execute train-level tests:
  • Functional and integration tests on test benches
  • Static and dynamic tests on train
  • On-site, lab or depot testing activities
  • Coordinate closely with:
  • System Engineering, Safety Engineer
  • Installation & Commissioning
  • Project team
  • Identify, analyze and manage anomalies and non-conformities:
  • Root cause analysis
  • Corrective action follow-up
  • Support to closure and validation sign-off
  • Participate in formal project reviews:
  • Test Readiness Reviews
  • Validation Reviews
  • Customer or third-party assessments
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • Alstom Quality and Engineering processes
  • Applicable railway standards and contractual requirements
  • Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement for ALM validation activities

Qualifications & Experience ##

Education ###

  • Master-s degree or Engineering degree in:
  • Electrical / Electronic Engineering
  • Systems Engineering, Automation or equivalent

Professional Experience ###

  • Several years of experience in Verification & Validation or System / Train-Level Engineering in the railway domain
  • Proven experience in:
  • Train-level testing and validation
  • Modernization, retrofit or legacy fleet projects (ALM experience is an advantage)

  • Good understanding of rolling stock train-level systems, such as:
  • TCMS
  • Traction and Braking
  • Doors, HVAC
  • Interfaces with signalling and auxiliary systems
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • V-cycle development and V&V processes
  • System integration and interface management
  • Familiarity with railway standards:
  • EN 50126 / EN 50128 / EN 50129
  • Ability to read, understand and apply:
  • System specifications
  • Train architectures
  • Interface control documents
  • Experience with engineering and V&V tools (depending on project context):
  • Requirements management tools (DOORS)
  • Test management and defect tracking tools
