Description

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer (m/f/d) - FPGA/ARM to support a leading technology company in Zürich on a 6-12 month contract assignment. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and debugging low-level firmware for ARM Cortex-A (AArch64) architectures, with a strong emphasis on real-time operating systems (RTOS), hardware-software integration, and AMD/Xilinx FPGA-based platforms. The role offers the opportunity to work on complex embedded systems at the forefront of technological innovation.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize embedded firmware in C for ARM Cortex-A (AArch64) platforms.
  • Implement, maintain, and enhance RTOS-based systems, ensuring reliability and performance.
  • Develop firmware for FPGA-based SoCs, preferably on AMD/Xilinx MPSoC or Versal platforms.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving firmware, hardware, and FPGA interactions.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, systems, and software engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Contribute to system architecture, code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement of development processes.
  • Support firmware validation, performance optimization, and debugging throughout the product lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of industry experience in embedded firmware development
  • Strong C fundamentals and deep experience in bare-metal or RTOS firmware on ARM Cortex-A / AArch64
  • Experience developing firmware for an FPGA-based SoC, ideally on Xilinx MPSoC or Versal platforms
  • Proven experience owning board bring-up from the firmware side, including power and clock sequencing and incremental peripheral enablement
  • Hands-on experience debugging targets over JTAG and writing boot images to eMMC, SD, or flash
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers for probing PCB signals and debugging hardware/software interactions
  • Strong desire to dive deep into system-level issues and drive problems to closure in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with internal teams and external design partners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with the AMD/Xilinx Vitis toolchain, from hardware handoff (XSA) through BSP configuration to boot image
  • Working proficiency with Vivado sufficient to navigate a block design, interpret an address map, and re-export a hardware handoff
  • Experience bringing up a PCIe endpoint, including address translation and enumeration debugging
  • Experience with QDMA or XDMA on Xilinx devices, including the host driver side
  • Working knowledge of cache and coherency handling for DMA-accessible memory
  • Ability to read Verilog or SystemVerilog and make small, contained modifications
  • Effective use of AI-assisted development tools for navigating unfamiliar code and accelerating debugging

Additional Information & Benefits:

  • Start date: ASAP
  • Expected duration: 6-12 months
  • Location: Zürich
  • Hybrid working model with a minimum of 3 days per week on-site
  • Type of contract: Temporary staffing
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge FPGA and embedded systems technology
  • Join a highly skilled, international engineering team in an innovative environment
  • Exposure to advanced AMD/Xilinx MPSoC and Versal architectures
  • Work on complex, real-world engineering challenges with direct business impact
  • Collaborative and multidisciplinary environment with close interaction between firmware, hardware, FPGA, and software teams
