With an international network, Eawag is the water research institute of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology Domain (ETH Domain). It conducts research, is committed to education, and provides technical advice. It therefore pursues two parallel objectives: meeting the direct water needs of populations and preserving the functionality and sustainability of aquatic ecosystems.

To complete the Eawag communications team, we are looking for a motivated person for the position of

Scientific Editor specialising in Media (80%) starting 1 September 2026 or by agreement.

In this varied and responsible role, you are the interface between research and communication. You prepare comprehensible, effective, and multimedia scientific content – with a particular focus on proactive and modern media work. You also support the management of the Communications Department in the strategic development of media relations and actively contribute to the sustainable building of Eawag’s image.

Your responsibilities

Proactive media work: design, planning, processing, monitoring, development

  • Development of content tailored to target groups (print/digital/multimedia) and dissemination to the media via appropriate channels
  • Preparation of media projects and specific dossiers in agreement with the department management
  • Processing and coordination of media enquiries; acting as spokesperson if necessary
  • Writing and publishing press releases
  • Planning and organising media events
  • In-depth knowledge of the Swiss media landscape, including French-speaking Switzerland
  • Establishment and development of a media network and active maintenance of relationships
  • Monitoring and analysing media coverage
  • Continuous and proactive development of the department
  • Implementation of the communication strategy and ensuring a consistent image in this area
  • Advising and supporting management and research departments in the field of media
  • Supporting management and the Communications Department management in crisis management and issue management
  • Proactive exchange and coordination with the political affairs office
  • Collaboration with media managers of the ETH Domain, related institutions, as well as partners and external agencies

Communication:

  • Writing messages, articles, and scientific publications for Eawag’s communication channels (external/internal, print/digital/multimedia)
  • Advising Eawag staff on communication projects and measures
  • Developing and implementing communication projects of the Communications Department
  • Supporting projects of other team members and department management within the domain

Ideally, your profile is as follows

  • University studies, preferably in natural sciences, as well as solid training in journalism or professional training in communication
  • Extensive professional experience in media communication, ideally in the academic sector or a public institution
  • Experience in relations with media representatives
  • Excellent writing skills and high linguistic competence for complex situations in environmental and environmental research fields
  • Experience in crisis communication is desirable
  • Independent, structured, and reliable working method, very good organisational and conceptual skills, qualification and experience in project management
  • Team spirit and strong social skills, diplomacy, and assertiveness
  • Excellent bilingual language skills in French and German as well as very good command of English
