We are seeking a PhD Student specializing in X-ray scattering and imaging focused on mineralized tissues.
This position involves developing Python-based analytical tools to extract nanostructural insights from SAXS tensor tomography. The candidate will investigate how mineralized biological tissues, such as bone, adapt their nanostructure according to various mechanical and functional requirements. Responsibilities also include helping to design and implement correlative multi-scale analysis workflows, integrating SAXS tensor tomography, high-resolution X-ray tomography, and complementary electron microscopy data, in collaboration with microscopy specialists. The selected candidate will publish results in scientific journals and present findings at international conferences.
To qualify for this role, candidates should possess a Master’s degree in Physics, Computational Science, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline. Proficient communication skills in English are required, and experience in Python programming is considered advantageous. A strong interest in interdisciplinary research that connects biology with computational tools and X-ray methodologies is essential. The candidate will be enrolled in the doctoral school of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
