Description

This position requires a dedicated and motivated PhD student to engage in aerosol chemistry research.

Your role will encompass performing ^14C and aerosol mass spectrometer analyses on filters collected in Eastern Europe and Asia. You will be involved in developing new workflows for methanol extraction with the aerosol mass spectrometer. Additionally, source apportionment of organics and elemental carbon for various regions will be part of your responsibilities. Offline measurements will take place at PSI and the University of Bern. You are expected to publish in high-impact journals and write your thesis for a PhD degree at ETH Zurich, while also supporting other projects in the laboratory.

A successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree in Atmospheric Science or a related field. Laboratory experience is considered a plus. You should possess strong programming and data analysis skills, preferably in Python, along with excellent oral and written English skills. Being a team player is essential for this role.
