Job Description
- Prepare and check the equipment necessary for the patient’s installation (table - mattress - supports), specific requests from the surgeon or anaesthetist.
- Plan and check the medical-technical equipment, in agreement with the instrument technician, specific to each intervention.
- Take charge of the patient upon arrival at the theatre and accompany them to the scheduled room, with their complete file.
- If necessary, pass on recommendations or wishes expressed during the patient’s handover by the care nurse.
- Assist the anaesthetist in the induction room and install basic elements (pressure cuff, ECG electrodes, armrest, stand, pulse oximeter) and support the doctor during venous access, general anaesthesia (intubation) or loco-regional anaesthesia.
- Introduce the patient into the theatre with the anaesthetist and continue the final installation.
- Carry out installation checks (support points, tourniquets, leg supports) under the supervision of the instrument technician, surgeon and anaesthetist.
- Respond to equipment requests from the surgeon, anaesthetist and instrument technician during the surgical procedure.
- Set up the instrument technicians during the preparation of their instrument table.
- Respect and apply the various protocols in place (hygiene, decontamination, washing, traceability).
- Apply the work instructions (WI).
- Complete the developed forms (FO), part of the ISO 9001 quality manual.
- Follow the checklists (CL).
- Meticulously record medical-technical services on operative taxes and accurately complete references.
- Check the expiry dates of Medical Devices before opening them on the table.
- Respect the equipment and report any incidents occurring during its use to the theatre technical manager (record in their logbook).
- Gather the patient’s file elements before their exit from the theatre (labels - radiological file).
- Accompany the anaesthetist for patient transfer to recovery after disconnecting the various devices used.
- Dispose of biological waste and soiled linen according to protocols established and implemented by the theatre hygiene nurse.
- Remove and store medical-technical devices that will no longer be used in their respective places.
- Clean the operating room according to the protocols in force.
- Leave the operating room clean and prepare it again for the next programme.
AT THE END OF THE PROGRAMME
- Clean the anaesthesia room according to established protocols.
- Restore the anaesthesia room.
- "Check" and "restock" all essential equipment for the smooth running of an operating day.
- Clean tables and their accessories (remove adhesive tape marks, sticky tape) and prepare tables for the next day’s programme.
ON OCCASIONAL REQUEST from superiors
- Thorough cleaning of anaesthesia cupboards, tables, medical-technical devices during periods of reduced activity.
- Check Medical Devices in anaesthesia drawers, expiry dates (intubation probes - needles -)
- Participate in year-end inventories.
Qualifications
- Healthcare assistant diploma
- ATSSO diploma
- One year’s experience in an operating theatre
- Native French speaker (or excellent knowledge)
- Good knowledge of English is a plus
