Finance & Operations Manager Europe (80–100%)
Location: Basel (Münchenstein), Switzerland
Employment: Permanent
Languages: English & German
Start Date: immediately or by agreement
Shape the Business Behind Exceptional Architecture.
At Oppenheim Architecture, we believe in creating architecture that is deeply connected to its surroundings—a philosophy we call the Spirit of Place. With studios in Basel, Miami, Aspen and Tirana, we deliver exceptional projects worldwide, specialising in luxury hospitality, branded residential and masterplanning.
Our European business is based in Basel, where around 30 talented professionals collaborate closely with colleagues across our international studios.
We're looking for a hands-on Finance & Operations Manager to help shape the financial and operational success of our Basel and Tirana studios. In this broad role, you'll work closely with Studio Leadership, Project Leaders and our global Finance teams while actively contributing to the day-to-day success of the business.
Your Role
You'll be responsible for the financial and operational management of our European studios, supporting sustainable growth while ensuring strong financial performance and efficient business operations.
This is not a traditional Finance Director or CFO role. We're looking for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves. In our lean organisation, you'll combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution—taking ownership of day-to-day finance operations, working closely with external accountants, partnering with Project Leaders, improving processes, and actively contributing to how we run and grow the business.
Your Responsibilities
Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial reporting.
Coordinate external accountants, auditors and ensure statutory compliance.
Partner with Project Leaders on project controlling, project profitability and financial performance.
Prepare fee proposals, commercial reviews and support contract negotiations.
Monitor project financial performance throughout all project phases.
Drive continuous improvement of financial and operational processes.
Support Studio Leadership with financial analysis and commercial decision-making.
Contribute to strategic business initiatives while remaining actively involved in day-to-day finance operations.
What You'll Bring
A degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field.
Around 5–10 years of experience in Finance, Controlling or Finance & Operations.
Experience working in a small or medium-sized organisation with broad operational finance responsibilities.
Experience within an architecture or engineering practice is a significant advantage. A strong understanding of architectural project phases, fee structures, project billing and project financial controlling will allow you to make an immediate impact in this role.
Strong analytical, commercial and organisational skills with a proactive, hands-on mindset.
A high level of ownership and the ability to work independently while collaborating across multiple teams.
Experience coordinating external accountants, auditors and statutory compliance.
Experience with ERP, accounting and project management software is an advantage.
Fluent German and English (our day-to-day language) are essential.
What We Offer
A key role with real influence on the future of our European business.
The opportunity to contribute to world-class architecture projects in an internationally recognised practice.
A collaborative, international and design-driven working environment.
A workplace in the iconic Helsinki Dreispitz building, designed by & de Meuron.
Modern office facilities with FELFEL providing fresh meals and snacks on site.
Regular team events and company celebrations.
An attractive pension scheme with 60% employer contributions, 40% employee contributions, and pension coverage based on the full salary without a coordination deduction.
Ready to make an impact?
If you're looking for more than a finance position—if you want to become a trusted business partner and help shape an internationally recognised architecture practice—we'd love to hear from you.
Please submit your CV, your last employment certificates, and your salary expectations.
We look forward to receiving your application.
Please note: Only candidates who are legally authorized to work in Switzerland will be considered. jid6299bb7a jit0727a jiy26a
