As part of the optimisation of operating theatres, the HUG have created an Executive Directorate of Operating Theatres (DBO) directly attached to the Deputy General Management.
This new centralised structure will be entirely dedicated to the management of operating theatres with the aim of strengthening governance, interprofessional synergies, optimising patient care and processes, while supporting innovation and research.
The operating theatres consist of 8 modern theatres equipped with a state-of-the-art technical platform representing nearly 30 intervention rooms. Designed to offer optimal patient care 24 hours a day. Each year, more than 30,000 interventions are performed by 1,500 dedicated professionals. These specialists cover all surgical disciplines, such as gynaecology-obstetrics, ENT, maxillofacial, aesthetic, reconstructive, cardiac, vascular, visceral, urological, orthopaedic, trauma, hand, neurosurgery, ophthalmology and paediatrics, including robotic surgery.
The operation of the operating theatres relies on a highly complex organisation. It faces major human challenges and high demands in terms of safety, quality and performance. It requires shared management as well as constant arbitration between numerous actors, in a highly constrained environment. To meet these challenges, the HUG are equipping themselves with the necessary means to fully deploy the potential for innovation in this sector, relying on process optimisation and the development of a culture of continuous improvement within the teams.
The Directorate of Operating Theatres (DBO) faces many challenges, notably the optimisation of organisation and the smooth running of all its processes in a particularly complex and constrained environment. It must strengthen the efficiency of surgical scheduling and optimise the use of its resources, while constantly ensuring the quality and safety of care, whether in emergency situations or elective activity.
You contribute to these objectives by being integrated into the DBO under the functional responsibility of its Director and the hierarchical responsibility of the senior flow engineer in the flow and organisation engineering service (SIFO) attached to the finance department. At the request of the DBO Director, you actively lead major analysis and optimisation projects in close coordination with the existing medical, nursing and administrative teams, relying on flow engineering methodologies validated by the SIFO.
You manage a portfolio of patient and logistics flow analyses to support institutional projects and optimise organisation, resources and process quality. You conduct studies, diagnostics and simulations based on complex data, using methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, DMAIC, process mining or statistical simulation.
You lead and coordinate multidisciplinary working groups, define missions, conduct analyses and ensure the achievement of objectives. You encourage the emergence of innovative solutions, manage divergences and support organisational changes induced by your recommendations.
You advise leaders on organisational, performance and risk management issues. You present your results to governance bodies and write structured analysis reports, enabling informed decision-making.
You prepare, model and analyse the data necessary for flow studies, using tools such as Excel, SQL, R, Python or FlexSim. You support teams in setting up performance, relevance and management reviews using dashboards.
You train and support colleagues in process analysis and optimisation methods, and contribute to spreading a culture of continuous improvement within the institution. Finally, you ensure strategic monitoring and represent flow engineering at conferences or external partnerships.
Qualifications
You hold a Master’s degree or equivalent training, supplemented by a recognised certification in project management and flow analysis, including DMAIC / Lean Six Sigma methodologies (Green Belt or Black Belt) as well as process modelling and simulation using the Flexsim tool.
You have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally in a complex or highly interdisciplinary environment. You demonstrate excellent abstraction and conceptualisation skills, and are comfortable analysing, modelling and solving complex problems. You have also shown the ability to mobilise teams and transform complex organisations.
You have the ability to establish a continuous improvement dynamic in multidisciplinary teams at all levels of the hierarchy using state-of-the-art tools (5S, SMED, A3, Ishikawa, BPMN, VSM).
You work with great autonomy, while knowing how to collaborate with diverse teams and support working groups. Your rigour, analytical sense and ability to structure complex situations are essential to succeed in this role.
