This department ensures the management of patients both electively and in emergencies. It represents a center of excellence, not only Swiss but also European in several areas and in many of its specialties. The Department of Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Surgery takes care of cranio-maxillofacial patients referred to HUG, coming from either the cantonal territory or nearby regions. It also manages patients with maxillofacial and cranio-facial dysmorphisms (cleft lip, hemifacial microsomia, etc.), in the context of oral surgery involving dental implants and pre-implant reconstructive surgery, complex dental extractions, treatment of jaw cysts, etc., those with temporomandibular disorders and chronic facial pain, and those with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) as well as tumors in the maxillofacial and ENT spheres. The Oral Surgery and Implantology Unit (dental medicine) consists of 11 dental offices and 2 intervention areas (procedures performed under local anesthesia only). Your activity can be carried out in parallel with a private practice. As the first contact for patients upon their arrival, your ease in human interactions and service will accompany them throughout their care within the unit. In addition to your technical skills, your abilities in empathy and listening are highly mobilized to work in a multidisciplinary team composed of doctors, dentists, maxillofacial surgeons, dental assistants, and dental hygienists. In your role, you are autonomous in performing oral examinations as well as activities such as scaling, polishing, curettage, gingival surface treatment, and taking impressions for the manufacture of dental trays. You establish treatment plans with the dentist and provide prevention advice. You ensure dental follow-up for ENT patients throughout their hospital stay. Your sense of service enables you to support patients who may be ill or have disabilities and to assist them with their mobility. You work independently in the care of patients while having a partner with whom you exchange information on their care. In parallel, you contribute to the training of future dental physicians during their internships. You ensure the smooth operation of the unit, manage files, and perform billing according to current rates. Precision and rigor are required to succeed in these activities. With your dental hygienist diploma or equivalent title recognized in Switzerland, you have the necessary cantonal authorization to practice. You have good knowledge of asepsis rules and the handling measures for medical devices (pre-disinfection, etc.). To succeed in this role, you rely on a successful first experience as a dental hygienist, are comfortable with the tools to schedule appointments, complete files, and establish billing. A perfect command of French is necessary to welcome and guide patients in care, and a willingness to develop professionally and your curiosity are additional assets for success.
