The Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs Service (SAAV) is tasked with ensuring, through inspections and analyses, that foodstuffs and everyday objects do not endanger consumer health or mislead them. It also ensures the welfare and health of animals for their own sake and for the benefit of humans.

• As Cantonal Chemist, you contribute with the Head of Service to the development and implementation of public policies related to food safety
• In your role, you are responsible for managing, executing, and monitoring tasks defined by legislation in the areas of foodstuffs and everyday objects, chemical products, as well as hygiene of swimming pools and public beaches
• You coordinate and supervise foodstuffs and everyday objects control activities and participate in the recruitment of specialists in the field of food safety
• You guide and advise the Head of Service, the Directorate, and the State Councillor within your area of expertise

• Holder of a university master’s degree, ETH or HES in chemistry, biochemistry, food sciences or natural sciences, ideally with a federal diploma in official food control management (DDCAl) as per the current federal ordinance
• Results-oriented, proactive, and taking the necessary initiatives and decision proposals to successfully carry out your mission
• With good communication skills, you know how to work in a team and actively collaborate with your colleagues and contacts in a pragmatic manner
• Stress-resistant, you face a significant workload and irregular hours
• Knowledge of the Fribourg agri-food sector is a plus
• You master French or German and have excellent knowledge of the other language
