Job title: Summer Camp Head of Boarding
Reporting to: Summer Camp Director

JOB PURPOSE
Aiglon College is an international boarding school based in the Swiss Alps with a worldwide reputation for providing a challenging holistic education in an inspiring setting within a safe, caring and supportive framework. The Summer Camp caters for over 500 students each summer aged 8-16 years old representing over 45 nations.
Summer Camp staff are expected to make a significant contribution to the ethos of Aiglon and the Summer Camp. The expectation is that staff will be positive and contribute enthusiastically to the work and life of the Summer Camp, creating a safe and welcoming environment for all.

INTRODUCTION
The Summer Camp Head of Boarding is responsible for the residential houses and the line management of the House staff teams (houseparent and house tutors). The role is to offer support during the programmes, guiding the teams during Summer Camp. A key priority is to ensure that the houseparents have adequate time to care for the children in each boarding house, and fulfil the responsibilities of the role.

The Head of Boarding is expected to carry out their duties in a spirit of cooperation, collegiality and open communication with houseparents and house tutors, the Summer Camp’s administration and Leadership team (SCLT). The role will require clear communication and reporting at meetings.

The role reports to the Director of Summer Camp, and is a member of the Summer Camp Leadership Team (SCLT). Accommodation is provided for the Head of Boarding on campus in the staff accommodation.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To oversee the smooth running of the boarding houses by supporting the houseparents;
To ensure high standards of student behaviour, supporting the houseparents with a clearly understood merit points system and fair system of sanctions that follows the school’s disciplinary policy, and to ensure appropriate and timely communication takes places with families;
To ensure adequate levels of supervision within the House and students’ awareness of security protocols and emergency procedures;
To inform the Summer Camp Leadership Team via the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) of any cases of serious misconduct or concerns for a student’s safety or wellbeing;
To oversee the use of recording and database systems for each child in the boarding house;
Lead elements of staff training at the staff induction, bringing together the houseparents group as a team. Responsible for training any residential staff joining the houseparent and house tutor team midway through the Summer Camp programme;
Cover days off for houseparents, managing the boarding house staff team and students;
To develop clear expectations around managing student use of technology and social media within the boarding house and ensure appropriate use in practice;
Oversee the writing of student house reports, and awarding merit points during the course of the programme;
Award merit points during the course of the programme, and encourage the staff team to use this system.
To maintain a high standard of appropriate communication with parents through email, telephone, written or personal contact, supporting the houseparents as necessary;
To oversee students’ arrival and departure in consultation with the Summer Camp office, with a welcoming reception for parents on campus;
Participate in the management of the Summer Camp by attending various team and staff meetings and full school meetings;
To ensure that meals in the School Restaurant are adequately supervised, with a presence at mealtimes;
Oversee the post lunch rota across houses, so that students are able to collect equipment for afternoon activities;
Run or support a course or activity during the Summer Camp programme;
Treat all members of the community, colleagues and students, with respect and consideration;
Treat all students fairly, consistently and without prejudice;
Set a good example to students in terms of appropriate dress, standards of punctuality and attendance;
Attend various pastoral or social activities, events, trips and excursions;
Assist with the escorting of students from and to the airport/doctors as required;
Carry out duties and exercise responsibilities in line with the Guiding Principles of Aiglon;
Be proactive and take responsibility for matters relating to health and safety;
Undertake any other task which may be reasonably required by the SCLT to assist in the smooth running of the Boarding House

Undertake any other tasks which may be reasonably required by the Director of Summer Camp to assist in the smooth running of the programme;
Understand and implement all school policies and procedure, particularly those relating to the safeguarding children and young people;
Understand the School’s Guiding Principles and uphold the ethos of the School at all times
