Senior Technician at 40%

within the Hydrogeology and Geothermal Centre (CHYN) of the Faculty of Science at the University of Neuchâtel

Activities

As a senior technician, you will work in a university teaching and scientific research environment that requires creativity, adaptability and the ability to propose customised technical solutions meeting the teaching and research needs of CHYN. Within this role, your main tasks are as follows: You will ensure the management, maintenance, calibration and repair of field measurement equipment. This equipment includes, among others, soil and water sampling devices, pumping systems, piezometric and flow measurement equipment, devices for measuring the physicochemical conditions of water, environmental monitoring instruments and geophysical measurement equipment. In collaboration with CHYN researchers, you will manage the procurement of measurement devices.

You will develop and build, in collaboration with CHYN researchers and students, customised data acquisition devices, ensuring the design of the various components of such devices, including physical elements (mechanical, 3D printing, etc.), sensor selection as well as data acquisition and transmission electronics.

You will support, supervise and advise students and doctoral candidates during their fieldwork as part of their studies and master’s or doctoral projects. You will explain and demonstrate the use of field equipment to bachelor’s and master’s students. You will be responsible for deploying measurement instruments in the field to meet the needs of research and teaching projects.

 

Desired profile

You have a technical or scientific education with knowledge of environmental monitoring, electronics, computing and maintenance and development of measurement instruments or any other training deemed equivalent. You have at least 5 years of proven experience in a technical support environment for research and development. Formal scientific training is not essential but is an advantage. In any case, you have the ability to work independently, demonstrate ingenuity in your work and possess the scientific curiosity necessary for R&D work.
