About Us
At Lumos School, we believe education should be both academically rigorous and joyful. We are a small, innovative German–English bilingual private school in Zürich, currently serving Grades 1–7 and growing towards Grade 9.
Our exceptionally low student-to-teacher ratio of 1:7 allows us to provide personalized learning, individual coaching and meaningful relationships with every child.
Our educational philosophy focuses on four principles: learning how to learn, combining challenge with enjoyment (“hard fun”), developing student independence and balancing academic mastery with exploration.
We embrace hands-on projects, mixed-age learning, creativity and innovative teaching methods.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced, passionate and creative Senior Primary Teacher to join our Grades 1–3 team.
You will take responsibility for curriculum planning, classroom teaching, assessment and student development while working collaboratively with another experienced teacher.
We encourage our teachers to go beyond prescribed curricula, using their expertise and creativity to design engaging, meaningful learning experiences.
You will play a particularly important role in developing English language and literacy, including phonics, reading, writing, vocabulary and communication skills, while supporting multilingual learners at different proficiency levels.
Our two-teacher classroom model encourages shared planning, flexible responsibilities, constructive feedback and genuine collaboration.
What We're Looking For
A teaching degree and typically 7+ years of classroom experience, preferably in Grades 1–3.
Fluent English; German is a strong advantage but not required.
Strong expertise in early primary education, literacy, phonics and numeracy.
Experience in curriculum planning, assessment and differentiated instruction.
Understanding of bilingual education and multilingual learners.
Excellent classroom organization and management skills.
Confidence working with mixed-age groups and personalized learning approaches.
Experience with Montessori, project-based learning or other innovative educational methods is advantageous.
Familiarity with Swiss Lehrplan 21 is helpful but not essential.
Eligibility to work in Switzerland.
Who You Are
We are looking for someone who genuinely loves teaching young children and understands their need for warmth, encouragement, structure, movement and play.
You are confident, creative, organized and proactive. You enjoy taking responsibility but are equally comfortable sharing ideas, decisions and classroom ownership.
You value collaboration, communicate clearly, welcome feedback and continuously seek ways to improve your teaching.
Most importantly, you are excited about helping children reach their potential while contributing to a thoughtful, ambitious and growing school.
What We Offer
Competitive salaries: Typically 15–25% above most Zürich private schools, benchmarked against the Zürich public teacher salary scale.
16+ weeks of school holidays.
Significant protected planning time.
Relocation support where needed.
Exceptionally low student-to-teacher ratio of 1:7.
Professional autonomy and freedom to develop creative teaching approaches.
Supportive leadership and highly experienced international colleagues.
Engaged families who share our educational values.
A collaborative, innovative and forward-thinking working environment.
The opportunity to contribute ideas and help shape the future of our school.
Join Us
At Lumos, we believe exceptional teachers make exceptional schools.
We are looking for someone who sees teaching as more than a profession: someone who brings experience, imagination, warmth and genuine enthusiasm to the classroom.
If you believe children learn best when they are inspired, challenged and supported, we would love to hear from you.
