Litigation Lawyer


Do you wish to work in a professional environment that is constantly evolving, stimulating and inspiring? Join the Litigation department team at Banque Cantonale de Genève (BCGE), an Authentic, Courageous and Fair bank.

As a Litigation Lawyer, you will play a key role in managing contentious credit files and representing the Bank before the authorities. You will actively contribute to risk control, the implementation of effective recovery strategies and the legal support of internal teams.

Your responsibilities

Management of the contentious credit portfolio

  • Collect the necessary information and ensure full follow-up of commercial and real estate files of a contentious nature,
  • Conduct the required recovery procedures,
  • Draft procedural documents intended for the competent cantonal and federal authorities,
  • Participate in movable and immovable property sales within the framework of forced auctions,
  • Conduct negotiations with debtor owners, property management companies, insurers and other banking institutions,
  • Seek to minimise potential loss by implementing appropriate recovery strategies or arrangements,
  • Manage and enhance non-banking properties intended for resale.

Management of provisions related to the contentious portfolio

  • Analyse and estimate loss risks for each file,
  • Determine the necessary provision amount in accordance with internal policy,
  • Carry out quarterly reviews of provisions with the department head.

Representation of the Bank

  • Represent the Bank before judicial and state authorities,
  • Coordinate the recovery strategy and monitor files entrusted to external agents,
  • Collaborate constructively with other Bank sectors,
  • Identify opportunities for sound operations likely to generate additional income,
  • Advise Front Office entities,
  • Participate in internal training of employees.

Your profile

  • Complete legal training, culminating in a lawyer’s licence (or equivalent experience considered).
  • Proven experience in commercial and mortgage credits.
  • Excellent command of civil law and debt enforcement law.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage complex situations.
  • Fluency in French, as well as English and German.
  • Rigour, analytical mind and strong sense of responsibility.
