Job Description

Within the Directorate General for the Environment (DGE), several units ensure coordination as well as administrative and logistical support. The Legal Affairs Unit (JUR) is responsible for advisory, expertise and legal monitoring tasks, while also representing the service or department before courts to defend its interests. It also plays a key role in the strategic and cross-cutting coordination of certain files.

As a legal officer within the DGE-JUR, you will undertake a wide variety of tasks in the legal and technical fields related to the activities of the DGE. The main expected duties are summarised below:

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and resolve legal issues.
  • Handle administrative procedures, coordinate technical aspects with specialists and draft decisions in the areas of activity of the DGE.
  • Manage and process appeal procedures in the areas of activity of the DGE.
  • Ensure legal monitoring and update reference documents (tables, templates, processes, etc.).
  • Participate in DGE-JUR activities and contribute to their development.
  • Substitute or replace fellow legal officers.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Swiss law; internship or bar exam or comparable or relevant additional training.
  • Proven professional experience in registry, as a legal officer or as a lawyer; good command of public law, environmental law and administrative procedure.
  • Proficiency in German and/or Italian is a plus.
  • Organisational skills, good resistance to pressure, rigour and precision in writing.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, spirit of mutual aid and collaboration.
  • Autonomy and initiative, analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Sense of public service and discretion.
