As a reference media, Le Temps is the only French-speaking national daily newspaper in Switzerland. Founded in 1998, Le Temps has been analysing Switzerland and the world daily for over 25 years, offering objective, reliable and quality information. The Le Temps group includes Le Temps, Heidi.news and Geneva Solutions, and employs nearly 160 staff members.

To complete its teams, we are looking for a:

 

Journalist for the News Desk M/F (90%) (Fixed-term contract of up to one year)

 

Your mission:

Your role within our editorial and production teams will be to monitor the news in various forms and to edit and publish articles and different formats intended for our digital platforms, as well as to lay out our content for our print editions. You must be able to prioritise information and ensure impeccable quality of published texts, regardless of the channel.

 

Your tasks:

  • Monitor the news by processing dispatches, maintaining our continuous news feeds or producing articles and other formats, under the supervision of a news editor and in consultation with the entire editorial team;
  • Proofread and edit articles from various sections before publication, ensuring digital journalism standards, particularly their readability and search engine optimisation (SEO);
  • Produce our daily newsletters;
  • As needed, contribute to managing our digital platforms by publishing and placing our content respecting the hierarchy of information;
  • Participate in the print shift rotation for the creation and layout of our paper editions;
  • Communicate and collaborate with editors and section heads to optimise the publication flow and share best editorial web practices;
  • Enhance articles by adding photos, graphics (datawrapper…), as well as embedded videos either produced by third parties (YouTube…) or produced directly.
  • The position involves shift work and weekend duties.

 

Your profile:

  • Holder of a PR certificate or equivalent desired;
  • At least 3 years of experience within an editorial team, particularly in journalistic editing for web and print;
  • Rigorous and dynamic, with a solid general knowledge, good awareness of current affairs and an excellent understanding of Swiss news and institutions, you are proactive;
  • Native French speaker, with impeccable spelling, excellent writing skills, ability to craft impactful headlines and good knowledge of web editing rules;
  • Proficiency in German and English is a plus;
  • High sense of responsibility, organisational skills, interpersonal skills and team spirit are assets you possess.
