With more than 160 professions represented, the University Hospitals of Geneva are a benchmark institution at the regional level. To learn more about our organization, take a few minutes to consult our retrospective. The Medical Sciences Service (SIMED) is an expertise center at the intersection of medicine and digital technology within HUG, with a particular focus on interoperability, data semantics to improve data quality, and artificial intelligence by integrating the semantic pole of our research team based at the Biotech Campus. This pole is dedicated to the semantic representation of medical data through standards and various approaches (Graphs, NLP). You will operate in a stimulating interdisciplinary environment, collaborating with doctors, data scientists, and engineers to enhance the quality and usability of health data.Internship in semantic data engineering - 100%As an intern in semantic data engineering, you will actively participate in research and development projects in the pole. Your main mission is to support the team in managing and enriching biomedical data. The main activities are as follows:- Manage graph databases: relating to the structure and use of graph-oriented databases (like Neo4j) to represent medical knowledge.- Process Natural Language (NLP): Development and testing of scripts for data extraction from unstructured clinical texts.- Integrate lexico-semantic resources: standards and reference terminologies (SNOMED CT, ICD10, CHOP, etc.) into our tools.- Perform mapping and alignment: tasks of mapping between local hospital data and standards to ensure interoperability.- Analyze data quality: checking the consistency and completeness of semantic data.Join a dynamic and supportive team at the Biotech Campus. This internship is an ideal opportunity to apply your technical skills to real use cases with a direct impact on medical research. You are a student currently in a Bachelor’s degree or at the end of a technical program: Data Science or Engineering (e.g., HEPIA, UniGe, EPFL). You must conduct an internship as part of your curriculum and showcase a marked interest in the field of digital health and medical data. You have a good command of a programming language (preferably Python). Your knowledge or strong curiosity about graph databases (Neo4j) and JSON is appreciated, as well as notions in Natural Language Processing (NLP). You are rigorous and precise (essential for handling medical data). You are autonomous, possess problem-solving capabilities, a team spirit, and your command of French is excellent, with a good understanding of technical English (reading documentation).Start date: to be agreed upon (ideally May)Number of positions: 1Activity rate: 6-month internship subjected to an agreementApplication deadline: For inquiries: Mr. , Write an emailYour application file must include a letter demonstrating your interest, your curriculum vitae, copies of diplomas, and documents required for the position as well as the last 2 transcripts.
