At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
Are you an electrical, automation or industrial computing technician? Are you interested in state of the art personnel protection and safety systems? Come help design, operate and maintain high-grade personnel safety systems with the CERN Access control team. Participate in the maintenance and evolution of CERN’s Access Control Personnel Protection System and other safety interlock systems in CERN’s international and industrial environment.
The Access Control section, within the Access and Alarms Group, is responsible for the deployment and support of access control systems at CERN. This activity covers all systems controlling the access to the many different CERN sites, buildings and to the zones where dangers, primarily of radiological nature exist.
Under the supervision of the Section Leader and in collaboration with the access team, you will:
Ensure the correct functioning and maintenance of the several Access control and Personnel Protection System.
Participate in the design, maintenance, upgrade and evolutions of Personnel Protection Systems.
Participate in the design, analysis, and consolidation of low-level electrical layouts for sensors, electromechanical locks and other equipment that make up the system.
Deploy, configure and integrate industrial access control, video surveillance and audio intercom systems in CERN’s environment.
Programme PLC’s and configure the associated Supervision Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Draft technical documentation as required using CERN’s productivity and engineering tools.
Act as technical supervisor for external contractor’s personnel
Participate in the section’s standby service.
Higher technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in the field of in electricity, automation, industrial controls or a related field.
Proven experience in design and installation of electrical circuits.
Demonstrated experience of PLC programming, e.g. Siemens S7/TIA.
Proven experience in working with electromechanical sensors.
Experience with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) would be an asset.
Experience with Access control or personnel safety systems would be an asset.
Construction, test and installation of electromechanical equipment and systems.
Installation, operation and maintenance of industrial data-acquisition, monitoring and control systems.
Design and modelling of low-voltage electrical circuits and networks
Configuration and use of information management systems: cMMS, CAD and electrical circuits design tools.
Design and implementation of safety interlock systems.
Working in Teams: building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships. Working well in groups and readily fitting into a team; participating fully and taking an active role in team activities.
Solving Problems: testing solutions for long-term suitability, cross-checking with all concerned before implementation. Addressing complex problems by breaking them down into manageable components.
Achieving Results: having a structured and organised approach towards work; being able to set priorities and plan tasks with results in mind. Delivering prompt and efficient service taking into account customer needs.
Learning and Sharing Knowledge: sharing knowledge and expertise freely and willingly with others; coaching others to ensure knowledge transfer.
Spoken and written English or French: ability to draw-up technical specifications and to make oral presentations in at least one of the two languages. Basic knowledge of the other language would be an asset or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly.
