**Your 'day to day'**
As a Head Scientist - Health and Disease Research, you will develop the Health and Disease strategy within the non-clinical science department and provide scientific leadership and strategic directions across all cross-functional Health and Disease research programs. You will lead a team of scientists to effectively develop impactful research projects, plans and related budgets, to solve complex scientific and technical challenges, and to provide robust interpretation of study findings. As a scientific leader, you will critically review key strategic documents for internal communication and for external dissemination of scientific findings and you will engage with leading global scientists externally (e.g. key external scientific opinion leaders).
**More specifically, you'll**
* Develop and evolve the Health and Disease research strategy and plans to address complex and diverse scientific questions in alignment with business needs.
* Provide scientific leadership and strategic directions across all cross-functional Health and Disease research programs.
* Lead a team of scientists with different scientific backgrounds, providing directions, supervision and guidance to ensure efficacious and efficient developments of impactful cross-functional research projects/plans and budgets. Guide the team to solve complex scientific and technical challenges and ensure robust interpretations of scientific findings.
* Provide scientific inputs and critical reviews on key documents such as program/project proposals, study designs/protocols, reports, presentations, scientific publications.
* Actively develop a high-performing team of scientists, fostering scientific rigor, agility and collaborative ways of working across scientific disciplines, functions and research programs.
* Manage appropriate team resource allocations across the different research programs as per agreed business priorities.
* Engage in scientific discussions with key internal stakeholders at various levels of the organization, across scientific disciplines and functions, and with external partners and leading global scientists externally (e.g. key opinion leaders and specialists).
**Who we're looking for**
** **
* PhD and post-doctoral fellow in Biological Sciences, or equivalent experience.
* Minimum 15 years- experience in non-clinical / translational research with demonstrated scientific expertise in one or several (preferred) scientific areas such as psychology/behavioral neuroscience, tobacco-induced disease areas such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, or preclinical pharmacology.
* Business discernment from previous experience in the industry in a leadership role involving development of research strategies and plans.
* Sound strategic critical thinking, strong scientific and operational leadership, influencing skills, demonstrated decision making ability, effective communication with diverse audiences, ability to deal with ambiguity, as well as sound people management and talent development expertise.
* Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
