A reference media, Le Temps is the only French-speaking daily newspaper with a national scope in Switzerland. Founded in 1998, Le Temps has been analysing Switzerland and the world daily for over 25 years, offering objective, reliable and quality information. The Le Temps group includes Le Temps, Heidi.news and Geneva Solutions, and employs nearly 160 staff members.
As part of a maternity leave replacement, we are looking for a:
Proofreader (80%) (Fixed-term contract - 5 months)
Your mission:
Your role within our editorial team will be to proofread and revise articles before their publication on our website and in our printed newspaper.
Your tasks:

Editorial revision and correction: Proofread, correct and optimise articles for the daily edition, magazines and thematic supplements. Meticulously track spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax errors and ensure the fluidity of the style.

Guarantee of typographic charter: Ensure strict compliance with typographic rules (French and specific to Switzerland) and harmonise lexical or spelling choices within the editions.

Quality control of form: Ensure a rigorous final proofreading (headlines, leads, captions, boxes) to guarantee that Le Temps’ high-quality standard is applied to all content, printed and digital alike.

Editorial collaboration: Communicate constructively and promptly with journalists, section editors and the editorial secretariat to validate changes or clarify formulations.

News flow management: Work at the pace of news production, often under tight deadlines (continuous flow for the web and print deadlines).
Your profile:

Higher education in literature, linguistics, journalism or publishing, ideally complemented by a professional proofreader certification.

Proven experience (minimum 2 to 3 years) in a similar role, preferably within a daily press editorial team, an online media or a publishing house.

Native French speaker (or absolute mastery and equivalent bilingualism), with impeccable spelling and excellent general knowledge.

Excellent knowledge of Romandy typographic specificities (writing rules and practices in Switzerland).

Comfortable with digital tools and press publishing systems (CMS, copy tracking tools).

Personal qualities: Absolute rigour, keen eye for detail, team spirit and diplomacy in relations with authors.

Flexibility regarding hours related to the imperatives of a daily newspaper (work possible late in the day/evening).
