The Archaeological Conservation Section of the Archaeological Service of the Canton of Bern is seeking a manager for archaeological artefact management / preventive conservation and deputy section head, starting 1 January 2027 or a date to be agreed (permanent contract, 80-100%).

Your tasks

  • Leading the archaeological artefact management and preventive conservation service
  • Planning, coordinating and prioritising tasks and projects while respecting available resources and considering scientific needs
  • Managing, maintaining and monitoring the climate of archive and storage premises and their infrastructure
  • Developing and implementing operational processes and planning technical adaptations in collaboration with the section head, colleagues and external partners

Your profile

You enjoy teamwork and stand out through your sense of responsibility and organisation, your autonomy and strong motivation. In addition, you meet the following criteria:

  • Holder of a master’s degree, preferably in conservation-restoration or archaeology
  • Professional experience in archaeological artefact management and inventory or in preventive conservation
  • Experience in personnel management is an advantage
  • Native French or German speaker, with good knowledge of the other language (level B2 achieved or to be achieved)
  • Good knowledge of computer databases and good understanding of technical installations
