For specialists in neonatology, this is a unique opportunity to join the Clinic of Neonatology at Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), one of Switzerland’s leading academic centers for neonatal care, education, and research. We are seeking a dedicated Consultant Neonatologist (médecin cadre) to help shape the future of neonatal medicine and make a meaningful difference for newborns and their families.

The Clinic of Neonatology at CHUV is the largest neonatal unit in Switzerland, with 40 beds, more than 900 newborn patients cared for each year, and over 3000 deliveries annually.

CHUV is one of Switzerland’s university hospitals and works closely with the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and EPFL, playing a leading role in patient care, medical education, and research.

CHUV is a leading university hospital in Switzerland, combining specialized medical care, education, and research. The Department of Neonatology is part of a multidisciplinary network that provides integrated care for the most complex perinatal and neonatal conditions.

The Clinic of Neonatology at CHUV provides comprehensive neonatal intensive care and specialized neonatal services for the canton of Vaud and beyond. As a tertiary referral center and university hospital, CHUV manages a broad spectrum of neonatal conditions, including extreme prematurity, neonatal respiratory failure, neurological disorders, congenital anomalies, and complex multisystem diseases with pre and postsurgical management.

The clinic works closely with maternity services, pediatric intensive care, pediatric surgery, cardiology, neurology, genetics, and maternal-fetal medicine to provide integrated, family-centered care. Clinical excellence is supported by active research programs and strong involvement in undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education.

Mission

You will join a team of eight experienced neonatologists, with expertise in neonatal neurology, nutrition, infectious diseases, hemodynamics, developmental follow-up, and neonatal resuscitation.

As a Consultant Neonatologist, you will:

  • Participate in the management of critically ill and high-risk newborns in the NICU and neonatal wards
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of patient care
  • Support family-integrated care and actively involve parents in the care of their infants
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, fellows, nurses, and allied health professionals
  • Participate in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and innovation projects
  • Take part in the consultant on-call rotations and neonatal transport activities as required.

Profil

We are looking for a physician who:

  • Is board-certified (or equivalent) in Pediatrics with subspecialty training in Neonatology, with the practical competencies expected of an independent neonatologist
  • Holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or an equivalent medical qualification
  • Demonstrates excellent clinical judgment and expertise in neonatal intensive care
  • Adapts easily to changing clinical priorities and thrives in a complex healthcare environment
  • Remains calm and effective in high-pressure situations and makes sound decisions when facing clinical challenges.
  • Works collaboratively and respectfully within multidisciplinary teams
  • Communicates clearly and empathetically with families and colleagues
  • Is committed to family-centered care and recognizes parents as essential partners in the care of their infant
  • Is committed to lifelong learning, teaching, mentorship, and professional development
  • Has a strong interest in research, innovation, and advancing neonatal care
  • Has a good command of French (C1-C2 level).

Particular importance will be given to personal qualities, including teamwork, professionalism, adaptability, and commitment to patient- and family-centered care.
