Commodity Trading Developer | 5+ years | Switzerland | Global Commodities Trading | Python & OpenLink Endur; build and support business-critical trading, risk, pricing, and data solutions used by front-office, risk, and operations teams across physical and financial commodity markets. About the role: We’re hiring a Commodity Trading Developer to build, enhance, and support technology solutions used by traders, analysts, risk teams, and operations across global commodity markets. You will work closely with front-office stakeholders to translate commercial and trading requirements into robust, scalable applications, data pipelines, and integrations. This role is suited to an experienced software engineer with strong commodities-market knowledge, ideally across energy, metals, agricultural products, or commodity derivatives and experience delivering business-critical trading or ETRM/CTRM solutions. Responsibilities: • Design, develop, test, and maintain applications supporting commodity trading, pricing, risk management, deal capture, position management, and trade lifecycle processes. • Partner directly with traders, commercial teams, analysts, risk managers, and operations teams to gather requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose technology solutions. • Build and maintain integrations between ETRM/CTRM platforms, market-data providers, exchanges, risk systems, finance platforms, and operational applications. • Develop services and data pipelines for market prices, curves, fundamentals, weather, logistics, positions, P&L, exposures, and risk metrics. • Support enhancements to trading workflows, including trade capture, valuation, hedging, confirmations, settlements, invoicing, and reporting. • Contribute to the implementation, customisation, and support of ETRM/CTRM platforms such as OpenLink Endur, Allegro, RightAngle, Aspect, Eka, or bespoke trading systems. • Investigate production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and provide timely L2/L3 support for business-critical trading applications. • Ensure high standards of code quality, automated testing, documentation, observability, release management, and operational resilience. • Contribute to Agile planning, technical design, code reviews, and continuous improvement across the trading technology landscape. Experience: • 5+ years of professional software-development experience, including meaningful experience in commodity trading, energy trading, investment banking, asset management, or a commodity-trading firm. • Strong understanding of the commodity-trading lifecycle: deal capture, pricing, position and exposure management, P&L, risk, hedging, settlement, and reporting. • Experience with one or more commodity markets: power, natural gas, LNG, crude oil, refined products, metals, agricultural commodities, emissions, or freight. • Experience supporting physical and/or financial commodity products, including futures, forwards, swaps, options, spreads, and structured transactions. • Proven experience working closely with front-office or commercial stakeholders in a fast-paced environment. Technical fluency: • Strong hands-on development skills in Python/ Java / C# OR C++ • Strong SQL and relational-database experience, such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or kdb+. • Experience designing APIs, microservices, message-based integrations, and data-processing services using REST, JSON, XML, Kafka, RabbitMQ, FIX, or similar technologies. • Experience working with market-data sources and external APIs, such as Bloomberg, Refinitiv, exchanges, price-reporting agencies, weather, or fundamental-data providers. • Knowledge of ETRM/CTRM platforms—particularly OpenLink Endur—is highly desirable; JVS, AVS, OpenComponents, or TPM experience is an advantage for Endur-focused assignments. • Familiarity with cloud and engineering practices, including AWS or Azure, Git, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, automated testing, monitoring, and logging • Experience with time-series data, pricing curves, P&L/risk analytics, data quality, and high-volume data processing is highly valued Ways of working: • Comfortable partnering directly with traders and commercial users, turning time-sensitive requirements into reliable production solutions. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with close attention to data quality, risk, controls, and operational impact. • Able to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with developers, quantitative analysts, business analysts, risk, and operations teams. • Pragmatic and delivery-focused, with an appreciation for production support, trading-hours coverage, and business-critical incident management. • Experienced in Agile delivery, code reviews, version control, documentation, and continuous improvement. Qualifications: • University degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, finance, or a related quantitative discipline. • Fluent English & French required; • Eligibility to work in Switzerland. • Relevant certification or practical experience in cloud technology, ETRM/CTRM systems, commodity markets, or financial engineering is an advantage.
