A natural hazards/subsurface resources engineer (60-70%)
with the geological hazards and subsurface resources section of the Natural Hazards Service (SDANA), in Sion
With scientific and technical expertise, the Natural Hazards Service (SDANA) is responsible for managing natural hazards. Our mission? To prevent, plan, organise and intervene.
Our activities
- Supervision and implementation : Supervising the development of hazard maps, implementing geological monitoring projects, technical support for the design of protective structures
- Emergency measures: technical support during geological events
- Analysis and management : Analysis of gravitational hazards; rockfalls, landslides, mudflows, landslips and collapses. Management of subsurface mineral resources
- Assessment: Seismic risks for earthquake prevention
- Cooperation and exchange: regular exchanges with federal, cantonal and municipal authorities, engineering offices and construction companies
Your tasks
- You provide technical support to various partners in the fields of mineral resources and subsurface use as well as geological hazards
- You contribute to the assessment of the potential of the canton’s mineral resources, their development and the planning of their use
- You implement the tools necessary to fulfil cantonal tasks in the management of subsurface resources, quarries and gravel pits
- You lead, in collaboration with the relevant partners, the production and planning of geological hazard maps and monitoring projects for part of the Valais territory
- You participate in the development and implementation of the cantonal network for event forecasting, monitoring of unstable terrain and alert systems
- You manage the administrative, technical and financial aspects of your activities
Your profile
- Geologist/engineer (Master’s level or equivalent)
- Experience in managing mineral resources and subsurface use
- Practical knowledge of methods for assessing mineral resources, their exploitation and use
- Good knowledge of the canton’s geology
- Experience in natural hazards and risk management
- Practical knowledge of methods for analysing, monitoring and protecting unstable terrain
- Experience in the technical and IT management of monitoring systems would be an advantage
- Ability to make decisions concerning the safety of people and property in emergency situations
- Ability to work independently
- Good writing skills, ease of contact, interpersonal skills, diplomacy
- Good physical condition
- Native French or German speaker with good oral and written knowledge of the second official language
